Tell Them
Let each generation tell its children of your mighty acts; let them proclaim your power. Psalm 145:4 NLT
As you can see from the title, this week is going to be a busy one. That title does not even include the fact that we are leading chapel on Wednesday with our buddies! I hope the following information is more helpful than it is overwhelming.

Two weeks to go in the third quarter. I really feel like the first day of school was last month, but here we are looking at the end of another quarter. With the quarter ending, I will remind you of some common things. First, any student who has not yet started to say their oral memory, should start. They only have until the 31st to say their memory. Whatever verses that are not said by that day will be zeros. Second, Any student who has been absent in this quarter, needs to work on finishing up any late work. Any student who has missing work, should work on getting caught up. If an assignment is not turned in by the 31st it will be scored as a zero. Finally, the students need three AR books by the end of the quarter. A lot of the students are almost done or done with this requirement, but there are some students who need to get reading.
The students are working on a piece of persuasive writing about their favorite food. If they would like a picture to go with their writing it needs to be sent to me by 9:00am on Monday or brought in on a flash drive. Look for the writing to be in the hallway soon as we start our March Madness Tournament of Persuasion! As we look into the week of the 27th, there are few things to mark on your calendar. This is the week that the Iowa tests will be starting. The sixth graders will start on the 27th. We have the standard tests as well as the cognitive tests to take this year. We will do a few a day as we chip away at them. Please do all that you can do to make sure your child is in school during the testing. If they are absent, we may need to do testing after school. Please also make sure that your child gets a good breakfast and a good night's sleep. Finally, make sure your child has pencils with them in school. The sixth graders with the help of our young 5 buddies will be leading chapel on Wednesday, March 29th. We will be talking about encouragement and we would love for you to join us! Here are the tests we have this week: Wednesday: Social Studies test on chapter 9 Wednesday: Memory - First part of Baptism Have a great rest of the weekend. Please remember these things for our celebration of Pi Day tomorrow:
1. The students can bring in a snack for the morning on Tuesday. The snack should not be a sweet and should be circular in shape. We will be measuring and examining our snacks before digesting them. 2. The students need to bring 10 circular items with them to school on Tuesday. These ten things should fit into a plastic grocery bag. 3. We will be having some pie on Tuesday afternoon. What is pi day without pie? Of course we will be measuring and taking some data on the pie before eating it! 4. Any student who is submitting a picture or drawing for the picture contest needs to do so by Monday. Their challenge is to incorporate the pi symbol into everyday surroundings. This is an optional contest. 5. If any student would like to recite the digits of pi will be given a handmade "trophy" and be added to the hall of fame. They can say the digits up to Tuesday. My favorite day is around the corner and I am excited to share Pi Day with my students. Like I stated last week, it is my favorite school day of the year. I hope that the activities are fun for the students as we find that math and order is all around us in the world that God created. Here are a few reminders and things to remember for Pi Day 1. This is an optional contest. 5. If any student would like to recite the digits of pi will be given a handmade "trophy" and be added to the hall of fame. They can say the digits up to Tuesday. I hope this is a great day for the students and a day where they see that math is all around them and can be incorporated into all areas of life. The only test that is on the schedule for next week is Memory on Wednesday. The students will be learning the Conclusion to the Lord's Prayer. I will not be in school on Thursday or Friday. Mrs. Priehs and I will be downtown for a conference during those two days. The students will be in good hands and I know they will do just fine with the substitute. Have a great weekend! This week we celebrate with other schools through out the country. We celebrate our school and Lutheran schools in general. God has given us a place to learn where he is the center of all that is taught. In class last week we talked about building a foundation. I told the students that by being at a school like Peace, they were building their foundations on God and His Word. What a blessing it is to be able to teach about God and the Bible and I hope that Peace is a blessing to your family as well. There are fun dress days for each day this week. Here is the run down: Monday - Comfy Day Tuesday - Pick a sport day. Pick a sport and dress like that athlete. Wednesday - Dress like your favorite book character. Can't wait to see the creativity on this day. Thursday - For sixth grade is made in Michigan day! Wear a top that is from somewhere in Michigan or related to one of our sports teams. They can wear jeans with that shirt. Friday - Crazy hat and tie with jeans day The choir students will be traveling to the Music Festival on Tuesday. I know there were special departure times for this trip and if you need a reminder of those times look for information from Mrs. Rohwer on Monday. On Friday, we will be having Live Science at school. Each class will have a presentation in their classroom on some great animals. This will be an exciting treat to end Lutheran Schools Week. My favorite school day of the year is coming up on March 14th! It is Pi Day. Pi is the proportion of the circumference of a circle to its diameter. This irrational number is often rounded to 3.14. The inner math geek in my joins with other math geeks to celebrate this day! We will be integrating math and circles into all that we do on the 14th! Each student will have a chance to participate in two contests, if they would like. They can memorize digits of pi. If they memorize 50 digits of pi, they will get a handmade trophy and their name will go on my pi day hall of fame. The second contest is to take a picture or draw a piece of art where the pi symbol is incorporated into an everyday scene. Both of these contests are optional. The students will be able to bring a snack to school with them on the 14th as well. The only specification is that the snack must be circular. Please no sweets. It is always a fun day to see how much math is a part of our lives and a part of our world in all subject areas! Check out more links on pi day. This week we have a few tests to prepare for: Tuesday - Literature test on Theme 5 Wednesday - Memory - 7th Petition and Meaning Word of the Week - shirk Have a great weekend. The choir is going to the Music Festival next Tuesday, March 7th. Permission slips were sent home by Mrs. Rohwer last week. If you have not already handed in a permission slip, please send it back tomorrow. The permission slip also has important information about the time your child will need to be at school.
