He is Risen! He is Risen indeed! I hope that you and your family had a good weekend celebrating Easter and the empty tomb. With an empty tomb we can live with an everlasting hope that one day, Christ will take us to be with him and our tombs will be empty as well.
I know that some of you are looking forward to vacations next week during Spring Break and I hope that you have safe trips wherever the week may take you. This week is a short week, but it is still an important week for several reasons. Here are some:
I also need to apologize to all of you for a mistake that I made. Somehow during this quarter I think that my record of church attendance was recycled by accident. I have been keeping it since March 6th, but do not have the information for before that time. I know it is impossible for you to remember every week of the quarter, but I would like to be able to hand in the names of anyone who had perfect church attendance. If you know that your child was in church every weekend from January 24th until this past weekend, March 27th, please send me an email. I don't want them to miss out on their award because of my mistake. Thank you in advance. Have a great week.
This week is the start of Iowa testing. I apologize that last week I had my date wrong. We will be starting tomorrow and if by Tuesday you could send in pencils with your child, to make sure they have enough to get them through that would be great. We will also be taking the cognitive part of the Iowa test. These are some extra tests to tell us where your child's cognitive abilities are. We will have a heavy day of testing on Thursdays. I hope to finish or get the majority of the tests done the next two weeks. If your child will be leaving school for any reason, please let me know ahead of time. As best as I can, I will rearrange the testing so they do not miss any. This may not always be possible.
This week our buddies, the Young 5's class, is doing chapel. They have asked us to help them. We love our buddies and have agreed. If you have the time, please join us at 9:25 for chapel. I messed the memory schedule up and from now until the end of the year, we are one week behind. I left out the conclusion to the Lord's Prayer, which we did last week. This Wednesday we will do the first part of baptism. No spelling tests for the next two weeks. They are both short weeks and we will be taking some of the spelling time to work on our Iowa Tests. We will be having a test on Number the Stars, the novel we have been reading in class, on Thursday. Have a great week. Today is the start of our March Madness Tournament of Persuasion. Each student was seeded and their essays are hanging in their bracket. The teacher judges will start judging today and have until Monday after school. We will finish the tournament right before spring break to crown the champion. If you want to check out the essays and progress, it is right outside our door. Also, Mr. Kennedy has made tomorrow a jeans day. You may also wear your favorite college gear in honor of the start of the basketball tournament. Hopefully you and your family had a good weekend. Tomorrow is a big day in sixth day, as we are going to celebrate Pi Day. We will be doing all things circle and math. Thank you for sending in your food items for our classroom buffet. If your child would like to have round pizza for lunch, please send in your $2 on Monday morning. I will only be ordering enough for the kids that send in the money. The students have been working on writing Persuasive Essays about their favorite foods. In order to complete the project, the students must take a picture of their favorite food. One that would be impressive to the readers. We will be having a March Madness Persuasive Writing Tournament. Teachers will be voting on the best writing and the winner of the tournament will get their favorite food for lunch one day. This week is the start of Iowa testing. We will not be starting until Wednesday this week. We will be doing a little each day as the schedule allows. Please make sure you send in new pencils for your child. Some students are very low on pencils and lower on erasers. We are able to test for a few weeks. We will go at a rate that allows us to do other work as well. It is so very important that if your child has an appointment or will be missing school that you tell me this ahead of time, so that I can schedule tests around that as best as I can. This week we will have the following tests and quizzes: Wednesday - Conclusion of the Lord's Prayer Thursday - Chapter 9 in social studies test Friday - spelling test list 22 One last reminder that if your student would like to participate in the pi day photo contest, they need to send me their picture by 11:59pm. Have a great weekend.

If you have not signed up for a food item, there is still time. Please go to the sign up genius (click on the banner above) and pick the item you would like to bring on Monday. If all the items are taken, please email me another circular item to send in. If your child would like to participate in the photo contest, please email me their picture by Saturday night at 11:59pm. If your child would like round pizza for lunch, please send in two dollars by Monday. If you send it in on Thursday or Friday please make sure that you send it in an envelope with your child's name. I will not be in school on Thursday and Friday. Mrs. Priehs and I are traveling to Grand Rapids for the MACUL conference. MACUL is Michigan Association of Computer and User Learning. The students will have a sub. Please watch your inbox for updates about Pi day and reminders as we get closer to Monday.
