Tell Them
Let each generation tell its children of your mighty acts; let them proclaim your power. Psalm 145:4 NLT
Just a reminder about two things happening tomorrow. The book orders are due at the end of the day, if you are choosing to order. Also it is our day to shop the Santa Shoppe tomorrow. Please send money if you would like your child to participate.

On November 23, 2016, we packed meals for people who don’t have food or cannot afford it. We have been doing Kids Against Hunger for a while and it is very fun. Before that, we had to do a lot of fundraising. We raised money in chapel, but we also had a week where you paid five dollars to wear different theme days for a week! Every year we raise about three thousand dollars, and we did it again this year. To make the food, we added rice, dried vegetables, soy, and powder. Everyone in the school participated. Everyone either put the food in bags, weighed it, sealed it, or packaged it. All the grades had different jobs. We all had fun, and we packed over fifteen thousand meals for people in need. Thanksgiving has been here and left its mark in our homes and hopefully our hearts. Now we prepare to welcome our Savior into our hearts and homes. Today is the first day of the advent season, a season of preparation more important than any preparation of worldly things. I pray that we all can prepare our hearts this advent season as much as we prepare our homes. This week the 6th graders will visit the Santa Shoppe on Thursday. This is an optional activity, but if you would like your child to shop, please send them with money on Thursday. The students will not have to time to shop on Friday. Book orders are also due on Thursday. If you are ordering as a Christmas gift, please let me know that so I can set it aside when it comes in. We are starting to work on our Christmas program parts. The choirs will be singing, the sixth grade class will do a recitation, and the sixth graders will join in singing two other songs. Please make sure you check the flyer that came home regarding this event. We are asking that the students dress with black bottoms and red tops. There are two performances on the 13th. One at 2pm and one at 6:30pm. Tests this week - Wednesday - books of the New Testament Thursday - Punctuation test Friday - Social Studies chapter 4 test Word of the week - casual Have a great week! I wonder how many of you fell in love with Michigan weather again this weekend! It was a beautiful short sleeve shirt day on Friday and a blustery day yesterday. Got to love Michigan, right? As we move into this week of celebrating Thanksgiving, hopefully we can give God thanks for the shelter we have no matter the weather outside. The sixth graders have continued to count their blessings each day of the month. If you have not been by our classroom lately, you might want to check out our wall of blessings!
This week the students will help pack meals for Kids Against Hunger. We will start packing after chapel on Wednesday. If you are able to help with this event, we are always in need of adult helpers. This is a great way for us to focus outside of ourselves before the holiday. Students are allowed to wear their Love is t-shirt and jeans for this day. We have memory on Wednesday, the books of the Old Testament. Spelling doesn't count on this test. The week after Thanksgiving they will learn the books of the New Testament. The week we come back from Thanksgiving break we will have a language test on punctuation as well as a test on chapter four of social studies. Book orders were sent home on Thursday. Anyone who would like to order, must hand in their order by the end of the day on December 1st. This deadline will assure we get the books before break. If your order is a gift for your child, please let me know and I will keep it until you can pick it up! I hope that you and your family have a great Thanksgiving. By Ava K.
Today our class led chapel. Our skit was based on the story of Ruth and Naomi. We had to practice a lot, but we finally got it! We learned about caring for others and how to show love. We also focused on love being an action that you have to show in order to truly love someone. This tied in with Ruth’s story because she had the choice to go back to her own family, but she chose to stay with Naomi. Tomorrow we will be watching the movie Maniac Magee. Your child will be allowed to bring in a snack (no sweets please) and a drink (no caffeine please) to enjoy during the movie.
Tomorrow is picture retake day! If you did not like your pictures, this will be the day to retake them. Make sure you send in the first pictures with your child!
As quickly as the first quarter ended; the second begins. Report cards will come home with the students on Monday. Your child should have already brought home your conference time last week. This week is a bit of a choppy week with parent teacher conferences and some days off for that purpose. There is no bus service on Tuesday, either way! Thursday is a half day with parent teacher conferences starting at noon. There is no after school bus on Thursday. Friday there is no school.
School pictures were sent home this week. If you are not satisfied with the picture; picture retake day will be Tuesday. Please make sure your child brings back the pictures from the first time on Tuesday. Next week your child has the option of participating in the spirit of giving dress days. A flyer went home and there is information in the Panther Tales about the different dress days next week. Your child can participate for a $5 donation to Kids Against Hunger. Please read the information closely to know what is allowed and what is not allowed. If you have not returned the order form for the book the class is making, please do so by Wednesday. I have about half of the forms returned, but I need all of them by Wednesday. If you did not receive the form, please let me know and I can send you a new one. We are almost done with our first novel, Maniac Magee. We will be having a test on this on Thursday. I would like to watch the made for TV movie based on the book on that day as well. Your child may bring in a snack (no sweets please) and a drink (no caffeine please) to enjoy during the movie. This week tests and quizzes: Tuesday - quiz on commas Wednesday - memory 9th and 10th commandments and meanings Thursday - Maniac Magee test Have a great weekend! The sixth graders are focusing on their blessings this month. Each day, they are acknowledging some blessing in their life. We are making a visual reminder of these blessings in the hallway. Each blessing is going on a paper candy corn and hanging in the hallway. One sixth grader said, "We should go around the whole school." Consider doing this as a family at home and ask your child to lead it! By: Emily
On October 31, Monday, it was Special Person/ Grandparents Day! In the morning, the special people got to have breakfast in the gym. After they were done eating, we got to take them to chapel. Fifth grade always does chapel on this day, but I actually got to help play a role in it because one of the fifth graders couldn’t be there. They did puppets, a play, a skit, and much much more. At the end there were even awards! After chapel we went back to the class room. We got to make paper monsters with candy corn! Then, we had to make a structure out of candy corn. After that, we had to make stories involving both of those things. It was a very great day! |
