Tell Them
Let each generation tell its children of your mighty acts; let them proclaim your power. Psalm 145:4 NLT
How is it possible that the month of May is knocking on our door? Time has flown by this school year for me, and I am hoping that it hasn't been a slow drag for you. As we move into the month of May it is always filled with lots of activities. Here are some of the things we have going on next week in our classroom.
The fine arts festival is Thursday, May 4th. Please come and hear the students raise their voices and play their instruments to the glory of the One who gave them those skills. The artwork that the students have worked on throughout the year will also be available. The students continue to work on their research project. This group seems to be doing really well in getting the note cards done and they have a great attitude. Remember, although I am giving them class time, some of the work will need to be done at home. They may bring their books and note cards on Tuesday for some work during class time. The note cards are due on May 10th. Any student who does not have 75 note cards done on that day will need to stay at school until they are done. Tests this week: Monday - Test on Theme 7 of our Literature books. Part open book and part closed. Wednesday - Memory - What is the benefit of this eating and drinking? Thursday - Social Studies Test - Chapter 11

I love the sunshine and green grass, maybe spring is here to stay. I hope so. Below are a few things going on this week in our classroom!
If your family has an empty toilet paper or paper towel roll, could you please send it in to school by Tuesday morning? We are doing a news reporting project and we can use them as our "microphones." Wednesday is a day of different dress. The students are asked to wear their Love is t-shirt and we will take a class picture for the yearbook that day. If they would like to, they can pay $1 and wear jeans. The $1 will go into our chapel offerings. The students have the information they need to be starting their note cards for the research project. For the next three Tuesdays, I will be giving them 50 minutes of class time to read and make notecards. Please help your child remember to have their sources and note cards with them on Tuesdays. Memory this week is What is the sacrament of the altar? Where is it written? Enjoy the rest of your Sunday. All students need a package of index cards - 100 and lined - and their three sources for their research topic.
If you would like to order from the book order, they are due tomorrow morning by 9am. Online or send it in!
As a class we started talking about the research projects. A lot of the students had a topic they were excited to work with. I encouraged the students to go to the library sooner rather than later. This makes sure that they have enough books (three or more) on their topic. If they cannot find enough books on the topic, they need to go with their second choice.
This coming week on Tuesday, they need to have narrowed it down to one topic. We will start writing the outline which is going to guide their research. On Friday there are two important things that your child needs in school, index cards (lined package of 100) and sources (their books on the topic). After Monday the 24th the students will be set to start their research. We will have work days during school when they can bring in their sources and just take the time to write note cards. Starting next Tuesday, anyone that needs extra help can stay after school until 4:30. Next week we have the start of another exciting program, D.A.R.E. Officer Leslie from the Shelby Township Police Department will come in every Thursday until the end of May and teach the students about drugs, alcohol, bullying and dangers of them. We will have D.A.R.E. from 1-2 on Thursday afternoons. We will have a few tests next week: Wednesday - Memory - 4th Part of Baptism - STUDY STUDY STUDY Thursday - Social Studies Test - Chapter 10 Friday - Language Test on Adjectives Finally if you would like to order books for your child the book orders are due on Thursday at 9am. Have a blessed Easter - HE IS RISEN! By Nikolette
This week, we are beginning to talk about the research project. We have seen the timeline, and now are beginning to get our topics and 3 or more books. The hardest part of this project will probably be the note cards. Other than that, this project will be pretty fun if you choose a topic that you are interested in. I hope everyone’s projects will turn out amazing! The book orders for March and April were sent home today. They will be due by 9am on Thursday, April 20th. You can order online or send it into the classroom. We will have one more book order in May.
Happy Spring! Hopefully this great weather stays around and we are done with the snow for this year. I hope that you had a restful break and are ready to get back into the routine of school. With that said, this is a short week since it is Holy Week. We will not have school on Friday or Easter Monday.
We have the cognitive part of the test left for our Iowas. We will be doing those Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Then we will have that off our plate! This week the sixth graders will also start the process of their research paper. Since this is there first time doing a project we will be going step by step through the process. Please note the timeline with this post. I hope to stick to that timeline as best as possible. I will let you know if we veer from it. Your child will need your encouragement and check ins to make sure they are the right track. This week I will give them an overview of the process and ask them to start thinking of what they would like to research. Here is an important date that they will need your help with: Friday, April 21st - The students will need three (or more) books that go along with their topic. Our library is limited so this may require a visit to the public library. They will be using the books from now until the end of the school year. Also on this day, the students will need a pack of index cards. They can pick the size they would prefer (3x5 or 4x6). Please buy the lined cards. As I mentioned we will be going step by step through the process. If you have any question during the process, please let me know. I will be giving the students a few class periods during the process to take notes in class. It is important for them to have the sources at school during this time. I will work with the computer sub to give them some time to type their paper in computer class. The majority of the work for this will need to be done at home. I will encourage the students to pace themselves with the note cards...a few a day. The students may stay after school on any Tuesday for specific help on this project. If you need your child to stay for more than that amount of time, please make those arrangements ahead of time. This week we have memory on Wednesday and it is the 3rd part of Baptism. |
