Tell Them
Let each generation tell its children of your mighty acts; let them proclaim your power. Psalm 145:4 NLT
I hope that you all had a restful and fun weekend. As we head into the final weeks, there are a variety of different events going on to keep us on our toes. TUESDAY is our school's Memorial Day Service. The students will all be singing a song with our buddies. Some students will be playing guitar and some doing a reading. Please have your child there at 6:15 in the sanctuary. The students will sit where we practiced from in the morning. DRESS CODE for the service is any red, white (or Khaki), and blue dress code clothes that your child has. FRIDAY is the day that the final drafts for the research paper are due. The students have been working on their edits, hopefully and will be ready to turn them in. This project will count as half of their grade for this quarter! I have told the students what they will need to hand in with their final draft as well. If they are done with their final draft, they can hand it in. About 12 students will be going to CJ Barrymores with the AR points they have earned this year. This trip will be on Friday. They must hand in their research paper before they go on the trip. Any work that they miss, they will not have to do. Don't forget to join us, if your schedule allows, on June 8th at 11:00 am for our D.A.R.E. presentations and certificates. We will be having this in the sanctuary. We are wrapping up chapter 13 in social studies and the Phantom Tollbooth in literature. We will be having a test for each of those the final week of school. Anyone who would like to donate dollar store items for our class Kopper Kash store on the last day of school, can send it in at any time. Test this week is memory on Wednesday - Which are these? What are the Office of the Keys? Keep working on the oral verses.

A final reminder that the book orders are due by 9am on Wednesday. If you are ordering online, please do so before that time. If you are ordering through me, make sure you send it in by Wednesday morning.
All the rough drafts were completed on time!!!! Thank you for your work in helping your child stay on task and time. Everyone will have their rough drafts returned to them on Monday, if they don't already have them back. Tuesday we will be typing our works cited page, so the students will need their bibliography cards with them on Tuesday. After Tuesday, they know how to do all the things they need to assemble their final draft together. The final draft is due on Friday, June 2nd. I am encouraging the students to have someone other then themselves read their final draft to make sure they caught all the possible mistakes.
If you are ordering from the final book order of the year, you need to submit that order by 9am on Wednesday morning. This week is the last D.A.R.E. lesson. We will start working on the project to show what we have learned next week. The work will be done in school. Remember that our closing program for D.A.R.E. is Thursday, June 8th at 11am. The only test this week is Memory on Wednesday - What is confession? What sins should we confess? With the year winding down, check in with your child on their oral memory work. Some have not yet said any verses. Also, if your child has been sick or away from school check on how their absent work is going. Have a great week! All the students had their note cards done on Wednesday, and on Thursday they started typing their papers. The students will have time to type on Tuesday afternoon and on Wednesday in computer class. The rough drafts are due on Friday! If a student finishes their rough draft before Friday, they should hand it in! All rough drafts will be handed back to the students by Monday, May 22nd, so they have time to edit them before June 2nd.
Please check out the post from yesterday concerning our D.A.R.E. graduation and presentations. The students will be sharing what they learned on Thursday, June 8th at 11am. They will also be presented with their certificate of completion. Please fill out the form below to tell me your child's t-shirt size, so that we can get them the correct D.A.R.E. size shirt. Next week I am going to send home the final book order of the year. Please return it by 9am on Wednesday, May 24th. Hopefully, you will find some good books to keep your child reading throughout the summer. Today a flyer went home for the school's Memorial Day Service. Please fill out the bottom portion and return it to school by Wednesday. I hope all the students and families can attend this special service. If you are out and about at the dollar stores, I am looking for items to add to our class sale on the last day of school. This is the day the students will be able to spend their Kopper Kash. I do get most of the items at the dollar stores, but if you see something cool and would like to donate it send it in. Please do not pay more than a dollar for an item. Our annual field day is coming up as well. If you are able to help out the morning of the 26th as a volunteer, please click the link below to sign up: Field Day Volunteer Important things next week: Tuesday - Typing papers Wednesday - Memory (Who receives the sacrament worthily?) and a test on Adverbs Friday - Rough Draft due and Test on Chapter 12 of social studies Wow, what a week. I don't have the words to thank you for the gifts, treats, time off, and kind words this past week. You all know how to make a teacher feel appreciated. Thank you for your kindness. It is a joy to be able to teach your children and I have learned from them so much this year!
The students' note cards are due on Wednesday the 10th. They will have another work session on Tuesday afternoon. Any student who does not have their 75 cards completed on Wednesday, will need to make plans to stay after school until they are done. I know many students are in track; if their cards are not done they will not be able to attend track until they are finished. Ms. Woods the computer teacher has said the students can type their papers on The 11th and the 17th in computer class. They should bring their materials with them on those days. Next Friday, May 12th the revised outline will be handed in. I am so proud of the students and how great their attitude has been during this project. A lot of them are so interested in their topic that they like to read and take the note cards! I am hoping that going through this process will help make their research and paper writing easier in the future. This week we started reading The Phantom Tollbooth in class. This book is full of figurative language and plays on words. We are doing a few activities throughout the book that tie in. Next Thursday is the musical. Some of the sixth graders are involved in the musical and some are not. We will be attending the 2:00 performance as a class. There will be a second performance at 6:30. Things to remember for the week: Wednesday - 75 note cards are due Wednesday - Memory - How can bodily eating and drinking do such great things? Friday - Revised outline is due |
