Tell Them
Let each generation tell its children of your mighty acts; let them proclaim your power. Psalm 145:4 NLT

The sixth graders are off with their research project. This week we talked a lot about how to make a note card and now they are on their way, researching their topic. The next item that is due is 75 note cards on May 9th. I will be providing at least one work day a week in class. This week we will have a research work day on Monday and Thursday. If they have their sources and cards with them, they will benefit from 30 minutes each day of time to research. I also am offering after school time on Tuesday for them to stay and work or if they have questions and need help. They may stay a few minutes or up to 4:30.
Friday is our field trip to Legoland with our buddies. Please remember that for that day your child will need to pack their own lunch. We will not be purchasing anything from the food court. If you are a parent attending the trip, please plan on packing a lunch that day as well. When our groups are done exploring we will eat lunch before heading back to Peace. Tests coming up: Monday - Literature Wednesday - Memory Thursday - Spelling (with our field trip on Friday we will take the test on Monday) Monday, May 2nd - Social Studies Tomorrow students are allowed to wear their Here I am Send me red shirts and jeans. We will be taking some class photos for the yearbook.
For those of you who have not handed in your field trip slip or money, please do so tomorrow. We are all set and have enough drivers, thank you to those who have volunteered.
DARE started last Thursday and I think the students enjoyed it. Officer Leslie is really great at being relatable to the students and I look forward to the next weeks that she visits us. Our research project is under way. Students have a topic and tomorrow they will bring in their three books. They have an outline that is their map for their research. This outline can be edited and revised as we go. On Wednesday we will be talking about how to make note cards and after that they are off and running. I will give at least one work day a week for the students to bring their sources in, read, and take notes. Remember if your child is struggling they may stay after school on Tuesdays for guidance. Tests this week: Memory Wednesday and Spelling Friday It doesn't look or feel too much like April outside, but we are a third of the way through this lovely spring month. Wether the weather agrees or not, we are starting the fourth quarter of sixth grade tomorrow. Three in the books, one more to go. This is a quarter that is going to be full of many things for the sixth graders. Here are a few of the things happening this quarter. On Monday we will be starting our research project process. The students will be guided through the whole process. This includes picking a topic, creating and outline, writing a thesis statement, note cards, works cited page, and the paper. I will email you a timeline that I have made for the project. Some things will be done in class, but the research part will be done mostly out of the classroom. The timeline has different due dates that we will follow. There will be work days when I will allow class time for the students to work on a specific part of the project. This means they will need to have their materials with them. By Monday April 18th the students will need your help in getting two parts of the project. They will need a pack of 100 three by five or four by six index cards. They will also need to visit the library so that they can have at least three books that go along with their topic. I will have the students check the Peace library, but they will need at least three books. The students MUST have these books with them in class on Monday, April 18th. Starting April 19th, I will be available after school if your child would like to come and work on their project or as we get into the later phases, needs to type or print. They may stay until 4:30 at the latest. This week the sixth graders will also start their DARE class. Officer Leslie from the Shelby Township Police Department will be coming in to teach the program to our class. The class will be one hour long one time a week for six weeks. As you know from the previous email, the students will be taking a field trip with their buddies on Friday, April 29th. I need to know by Thursday who can help with the driving and if any students will not be attending. I will need the $10 (discounted ticket price) for each person by Monday, April 18th. I will email the permission slip today and send home a hard copy tomorrow. Some students are running low on certain school supplies like notebook paper. Please ask them what they need to get through the rest of the year and help them stock up! Tests this week: Social studies - Wednesday Memory - Wednesday Spelling - Friday
Lobster! Congratulations to Riley for her essay on Lobster winning the tournament! It was a close vote of 3-2 in the championship game.
