Tell Them
Let each generation tell its children of your mighty acts; let them proclaim your power. Psalm 145:4 NLT
You have to love Michigan right? Snow day and three days later sunshine and almost spring temperatures. Hope you are enjoying the sun today. As I look into the week ahead, there are some very exciting activities this week.
The choir students will be going to the area music festival on Tuesday. Remember that they will be leaving peace at 7:35. Please have your student there and ready to go in the correct clothes. The students will perform before judges who will tell them their strengths and weaknesses. The band students in 6-8th grade will be left with me for the morning, since Mr. Priehs will be going on the field trip. This week is Peace's annual book fair. The book fair will be open during the school Wednesday through Friday and during the Knowledge Fair on Friday evening. The sixth graders will have a short opportunity to shop on Wednesday from 1:30-2:15. If you would like your child to purchase something, please send them with adequate money. If you would prefer that they just window shop, that is fine too. This is an optional activity. Friday is the science fair. Hopefully, the students are working hard on their projects and finishing them up. Make sure you join us on Friday evening. You will be able to see all the classrooms and projects! A lot of the students did not do well on the pronoun language test last week. The material on the test is something that we have spent a lot of time going through and the students seemed very confident in class to do the work. We will go through the information again on Monday. If your child would like to retake the test they will have an opportunity to do so on Wednesday. In order to take the retake test, though, they will need to have a parent sign the original test so that i know that you have seen it. I will take the average of the two tests for their grade. Here are the tests and quizzes this week: Wednesday - 6th petition and retake of pronoun test Friday - Spelling test lesson 20 Enjoy the rest of this sunny day!

As you are going about your days if you happen to come across these items, we are in need of them in the classroom:
1. Kleenex boxes - we have gone through our supply of Kleenex and our noses would appreciate it if you had the opportunity to donate a box to the class. 2. Brown grocery bags - We are going to do an activity next week that requires brown bags. I need at least 9 bags, but if I could get 17 that would be great! Used are fine. Thank you in advance This week is back to the regular schedule of a full week. There are a few tests and quizzes this week. Other than that, there is not much out of the ordinary happening.
Don't forget that the Science Fair is coming up on March 4th. Mr. Priehs shared information with the students about the requirements for the project. Please plan on joining us on the 4th to see the projects and participate in some fun experiments in the gym. The Annual Peace Auction is on Friday, March 11th. The sixth graders have completed a project that will be up for bid at the auction. They are also working on a project in art class that will be up for bid. This is a great night and event to have fun and support Peace. Consider buying a ticket for this event from the office. This week's tests and quizzes: Wednesday Memory - 5th Petition Thursday - Language test on Pronouns Friday - Spelling Test Friday - Literature test on Theme 5 (part open book and part closed book) Have a great Sunday! Is your sixth grader so excited to go back to school tomorrow? So excited that they probably won't be able to sleep tonight? All good things must come to an end and it is no different with breaks from school. Tomorrow we start our short week back in the swing of things. Since there are only three days this week we will not have any memory quiz or spelling test! We will have a social studies test on Chapter 8 on Friday.
There is NO bus service this week. Utica schools do not have school the rest of the week, so the buses get time off as well. Friday is a jeans for a dollar day. Wear jeans for a dollar donation to Hearts for Jesus. Remember your child will need boots if they would like to be in the snow at recess time. I don't know how long the snow will last, but send the boots with them in the morning. Have a great night.
This week we have a few exciting activities going on in sixth grade. We will be having our Valentine's Day party on Friday, February 12th. We will be taking the afternoon to party by watching the movie Holes. Your child may bring in a snack (non sweets please) and drink (preferred non caffeine) to enjoy during the movie. If your child is bringing in Valentine's or a special treat for their friends, please make sure they bring one for each student in the class. If they do not have one for every student, they will not be able to pass them out in class. There are 17 students in our class. On Thursday and Friday the students will be giving a 45-60 second speech. The students picked a topic that they knew a lot about and we have already written a three paragraph essay about the topic. This week we will put the finishing touches on that as well as talk about what we do when we are speaking to a group. We will randomly draw the order of the speeches for Thursday and Friday! Check in with your child around Wednesday to see how their preparations are going. The only tests this week are the usual. Memory on Wednesday (4th Petition) and Spelling on Friday (list 18). Friday is another Jeans for $1 donation to the Hearts for Jesus mission - Wellspring. Have a great week! Students can wear jeans on Friday, February 5th for a dollar donation to our Hearts for Jesus mission. A note will go home with students on Thursday explaining the mission and other opportunities that you will have to contribute.
