Tell Them
Let each generation tell its children of your mighty acts; let them proclaim your power. Psalm 145:4 NLT
It doesn't look or feel too much like April outside, but we are a third of the way through this lovely spring month. Wether the weather agrees or not, we are starting the fourth quarter of sixth grade tomorrow. Three in the books, one more to go. This is a quarter that is going to be full of many things for the sixth graders. Here are a few of the things happening this quarter. On Monday we will be starting our research project process. The students will be guided through the whole process. This includes picking a topic, creating and outline, writing a thesis statement, note cards, works cited page, and the paper. I will email you a timeline that I have made for the project. Some things will be done in class, but the research part will be done mostly out of the classroom. The timeline has different due dates that we will follow. There will be work days when I will allow class time for the students to work on a specific part of the project. This means they will need to have their materials with them. By Monday April 18th the students will need your help in getting two parts of the project. They will need a pack of 100 three by five or four by six index cards. They will also need to visit the library so that they can have at least three books that go along with their topic. I will have the students check the Peace library, but they will need at least three books. The students MUST have these books with them in class on Monday, April 18th. Starting April 19th, I will be available after school if your child would like to come and work on their project or as we get into the later phases, needs to type or print. They may stay until 4:30 at the latest. This week the sixth graders will also start their DARE class. Officer Leslie from the Shelby Township Police Department will be coming in to teach the program to our class. The class will be one hour long one time a week for six weeks. As you know from the previous email, the students will be taking a field trip with their buddies on Friday, April 29th. I need to know by Thursday who can help with the driving and if any students will not be attending. I will need the $10 (discounted ticket price) for each person by Monday, April 18th. I will email the permission slip today and send home a hard copy tomorrow. Some students are running low on certain school supplies like notebook paper. Please ask them what they need to get through the rest of the year and help them stock up! Tests this week: Social studies - Wednesday Memory - Wednesday Spelling - Friday
