We made it! We had a great few days easing back into the routine of school. In literature, we started our second novel of the year, Holes. We are just getting into this story that has many twists and turns and details. We also started a new game in the classroom. The game is called Showdown and we play it when we have a few minutes before the end of the day or in between classes. The students face off and try to stump each other. They seem to like the game and it makes them have to think quickly on their feet. We are starting some tournaments that we will play and the students are going to help plan them. This is just a filler, but the kids look forward to the treat after working hard. Next week is the school spelling bee. Any students who signed up for the spelling bee will be competing next week on Thursday. Best of luck to all who entered the bee. The book report is due on Tuesday, Jan. 17th. If your child is done with their book report, they can bring it in next week. After the 17th, look for the reports to be displayed in the hallway! The quarter ends on Jan. 20th and that is the day that all oral memory must be said. If your child has not started, there are 10 verses to be said and 9 school days of the quarter left. The students also have to have their three AR books read and a test taken by the 20th. A look at next week Monday - Word of the week - Retort Wednesday - Memory - The Lord's Prayer, The Introduction and the Meaning Friday - Quiz on Part one of the novel Holes (Chapters 1-28) Have a great rest of the weekend. Happy New Year! I hope everyone has had a safe and blessed Christmas and New Year. It is around the time to start thinking about the kids going back to school. I just wanted to remind you of a few things. There are no tests or quizzes this week when we return to school. The end of the quarter is close, though. With that comes finishing oral memory, accelerated reader books, finishing missing or absent work, and polishing up the book report. The book report is due January 17th. The end of the quarter is January 20th. That gives us about two and a half weeks to finish all the things before the quarter. I'm looking forward to seeing the kids again and getting back into the routine!
